When I first became burdened to push back against gay activism in 2004, I immediately began to read the stories of gay activists, gay pastors, and others. That’s because I wanted to have a heart for the people as opposed to simply standing up to the activism. And the more I read the stories of the people involved and the more I sat and talked with them face to face, the more my heart broke.

You see, it’s one thing to look at the ugly and perverse extremes often put on exhibit at major gay pride parades (especially in years past). Or to confront a propagandistic and dangerous curriculum in your child’s elementary school.

It’s another thing to sit and talk with someone who tells you that they always felt different, even at the age of 5. That, when they entered puberty, they prayed and prayed for their gay feelings to go away, but they didn’t. That they tried exorcism and shock treatment to get rid of their homosexuality and that, when nothing worked, they contemplated suicide.

It was only then that they concluded that this is how God made them, and that’s why they now serve Him as gay Christians.

Of course, I do not believe that anyone is born gay, let alone that God made them gay. Nor do I believe that one can truly follow Jesus and practice homosexuality at the same time.

But that doesn’t mean I was not deeply moved by these stories, sometimes to the point of tears.

I’ve also interacted with lesbian moms who seem as committed to their children as any heterosexual mother I know. And I’ve heard them explain why they live clean lives and seek to raise their children with good morals.

Of course, I grieve for these children, since they are being deprived of having their father(s) in their lives.

But I say this to emphasize that not every gay person is consciously thumbing their nose at God and morality. For me, that is all the more reason to pray for them with a broken heart rather than to put on some kind of twisted, self-righteous display by calling them the worst of names and leveling every imaginable insult against them.

All this was underscored to me earlier this week when I watched a one-hour, gay pride special on MSNBC on the Stonewall riots in 1969.

The event itself was utterly lawless, and there was nothing to commend it in the least. It was ugly, it was violent, and it was full of rebellion. At the same time, the stories behind the riots were moving, as older gays and lesbians described what their life was like prior to 1969.

They had to conduct their relationships in complete secrecy. They could lose their jobs and be blacklisted within their profession if they were found out. Lesbians had to be sure they had at least three female clothing items on when they left the house. It was illegal for a same-sex couple even to dance together in a bar.

For them, Stonewall was the ability to breathe, to say, “This is who we are,” to live their likes other people. For them, the attacks on the police that night represented “the lancing of the festering wound of anger at this kind of unfair harassment and prejudice” (as expressed by gay Stonewall patron Morty Manford with specific reference to police raids in the past).

Yet, as much as my heart goes out to those who feel that same-sex attraction is as natural for them as heterosexual attraction is for me, I cannot for a second affirm the broader goals of the LGBTQ+ agenda.

The first reason is biblical.

Despite the claims of gay theologians and their allies, the Bible has not changed, nor has God’s design for marriage and family. For my book on the subject, see here. For a 6-minute, animated video, see here.

Homosexual relationships are neither blessed nor ordained by God, and marriage, as the Lord intended from the beginning, is for one man and one woman, despite the Supreme Court’s ruling in 2015.

So, if God is against something, I cannot be for it. He really does know what is best for His creation. (In my book, I address the allegation that the Bible was wrong on slavery, segregation, and the oppression of women and is just as wrong on homosexuality.)

The second reason is social.

In a word, just look at the trajectory, starting with G (gay), then GL (gay, lesbian), then GLB (gay, lesbian, bisexual), and now LGBTQIPA+.

Or consider “the primary categories of people who believe they have multiple gender identities: ambigender; bigender; blurgender; collgender; conflictgender; cosmicgender; crystagender; deliciagender; duragender; demiflux; domgender; fissgender; gemelgender; gendercluster; genderfluid; gendersea; genderfuzz; genderfractal; genderspiral; genderswirl; gendervex; gyaragender; libragender; ogligender; pangender; polygender; and trigender.” And why not? (For further details, see here.)

This is the inevitable trajectory once you deviate from the God-ordained norm.

One day it was, “Just allow us to be who we are in public.” The next day it was, “You need to give our relationships legal recognition.” Then, “You need to celebrate our relationships.” Now, it’s, “You will suffer serious consequences if you do not affirm and celebrate every aspect of LGBTQ+ pride.”

One day it was, “You need to understand the bullying we endured as kids.” The next day, it’s drag queens shaking their hips for toddlers and straight kids being told to keep their views to themselves in middle school.

One day it was, “We will not be silenced.” The next day it was, “All opposition to our agenda must be silenced.”

One day it was, “Don’t shame a boy who is not a macho jock.” The next day it was, “A 15-year-old boy will be sharing the bathroom and locker room with your daughter and competing against her in sports.”

And on and on it goes.

Indeed, we are still only 52 years removed from Stonewall and just 6 years removed from Obergefell, yet the cultural descent becomes more rapid by the month.

That’s why I will stand against the bullying and mistreatment of those who identify as LGBTQ, I will call for their equal treatment under the law, and on an interpersonal level, I will show love and grace and kindness. Anything less than that would be a denial of my faith and a rejection of love for my neighbor.

At the same time, I will stand against LGBTQ activism and theology. Anything less than that would be denial of my faith and a rejection of love for my neighbor.

And for crying out loud God is the judge of all humanity not you, not me, and not Dr. Michael Brown . I will leave it to Him (God) and of course really now can do as you like it’s on your head and no one else’s! But when it comes to a standard mine will be derived from a book called Gods word to mankind ! You certainly can make up the rules as you go! But I don’t have to follow your rules! I’ll follow Gods ....if you lived across the street you would never know anything but kindness unless you were a jerk with a chip on your shoulder then it might get interesting! Only God knows!

B.W. - ‘the victim act’??? How would YOU feel if from a very young age you felt like you didn’t ‘belong’? You appeared and felt different than your peers? You were rejected by your parents when you finally confirmed with them that you were different? And then being told that your the Creator of the universe is disappointed, and that you don’t fit into ‘his’ world or ideal either?? Just imagine. Would YOU feel militant in ANY way?? Would YOU want to fight back and scream - ‘WAIT A MINUTE...I MAY BE DIFFERENT, BUT I TOO NEED TO BELONG??’ If this is somehow ‘playing victim’, or promoting a ‘vile agenda’, then you B.W. are one twisted thinker (but I can fully understand why you so love Mike brown).

Never once have I been militant or violent! Toward anyone! Go away ! I am speaking to a group who is militant and violent! And have publicly displayed disgusting displays of the most vial nature in public all in advocating for a right to be disgusting . I’ve personally witnessed it! You probably are in a self imposed cocoon and are not clued in to the dark bowls to which you have declared war on anyone who dissents ! Go away and stop the victim act!

To say scripture is a bully...really? Romans 1:18-31 And Romans 2:1-6 I’m not participating in what God calls sin. we are all sinners in need of salvation! Sorry you think the Bible is just an Ancient book full of flawed theology! Sad! your crusade is flawed it will never be complete! Like the union a God ordained union a man and women ! B.W. - how would YOU react if you were told that you don’t belong, and are contrary to what God wants and has planned for humanity?? My guess is that your ‘agenda’ would be pretty militant too. Gay people used to be jailed, chemically castrated, or diagnosed with a mental illness. Now, except for the likes of ‘Dr.’ Mike and conservative religion, the vast majority of people acknowledge and support members of the LGBTQ community as people who are NOT going away, and who cannot be prayed into ‘normalcy’. They are different, cannot be made un-different, and undeniably belong. Until this is 100% accepted, I will ALWAYS side with these people, and single out the Christian bully every chance I get.

Thinking we ‘know’ what Gods (who has been at work for BILLIONS of years) wants and doesn’t want via a few hundred pages of an ancient book....written by MEN. How arrogant, twisted, and WRONG. But...while on the topic of ‘thinking we know what God wants’, my guess is that he’s slap ‘Dr.’ Mike across the face and say something like ‘give it up Mike, I have bigger worries. Stop making a big deal about EVERYTHING, and go feed the poor and the needy’.

The school yard bully bullies with lies w/attacks on a person they pick their victims LGBTQ do the same Bully w/lies w/false unproven theories their victimizers of society they demand equality, recognition , that’s all the school yard bully wants is recognition for something they are not entitled to! To be entitled to equality you have to be the same ! There are not enough words to to define all the ways they are dif·fer·ent /ˈdif(ə)rənt/ adjective 1. not the same as another or each other; unlike in “nature”,form, or quality. You can create all the short cuts to make them seem equal but it will always be wanting and glaringly not the same. And if you think all the little concessions made by laws and forced recognition, they will never be happy it will always be counterfeit! you see they will never procreate so therefore not equal no, not, nada! I’m not being a bully by simply stating the truth! Swkh310 : / your a playground bully or the geek Jesus loves you!

I feel bad for them but I too stand on the word of God. The saddest part is the activists are pushing tio far and when the backlash comes it will be your everyday rank and file gay person who will pay the price. The activists have come a long way from what we do in our bedroom is our business. Something even Christians wouldn't argue with. We still see it as violating God's law and his holy standard but we wouldn't interfere in their bedroom. It's the taking it everywhere outside the bedroom we are upset with.

So which is it Mike? You say ‘I will stand against the bullying and mistreatment of those who identify as LGBTQ’, but then write something like this. Gentle and ‘loving’ bullying is still bullying.

Love... but God spoke to the very thing we see going on in world in our day! Romans 1:18 But God shows his anger from heaven against all sinful, wicked people who (LGBQT) suppress the truth by their wickedness. 19They know the truth about God because he has made it obvious to them. 20 For ever since the world was created, people have seen the earth and sky. Through everything God made, they can clearly see his invisible qualities—his eternal power and divine nature. So they have no excuse for not knowing God. Romans 1:22 Claiming to be wise, they instead became utter fools. Then in Romans 2: God says a lot to believers and their sin .... and Judging is to be left to God! He is the only one who knows a persons heart! We can’t! God forgive us our sin!
